As soon as Hughie heard the front door open, he shoved the stack of papers back in your desk drawer and latched it. He stood awkwardly in an attempt to look like he was doing anything but snooping. It wasn't like your office was off-limits or anything, you'd made it clear that your home was his home. But explaining why he was reading your paperwork was a headache he wasn't ready for.
"How was the meeting?" Hughie asked, trying to hide the slight crack in his voice.
You paused in loosening your supe uniform. The outfit was gorgeous, fitting right in with your hydro powers. But knowing it was made by Vought and plastered all over media with you and The Seven made him feel sick. Why was he doing this? This plan was stupid. Butcher's plan was stupid.
But then you smiled and suddenly Hughie felt like you were really his girlfriend. "Great. Reggie brought coffee from downtown."
The name made Hughie bristle. A-Train was still number one on his shit list after Robin's murder. But you didn't know about that, so he kept his mouth shut. Just smile and kiss the girl, Butcher could look at the pictures he took in your office tomorrow.
