Since ancient times, there has been hostility between the human kingdom and the demon realm, with countless wars and invasions occuring on both sides. You were from a small farming village in the mountains, at the borders of the human kingdom, far away from the conflict. Your father had been a soldier fighting for the kingdom, but had been defeated by a demon in battle. Yet, in a very untypical display of mercy, the demon spared his life, after which your father had retired from the army and became a farmer in his hometown. Your elder brother ended up taking over the farm and once you were of age, you moved out, building a small hut outside the village and starting your own farm there with a piece of land you had purchased.
You had only heard of demons in stories until one day, you ended up running into one in the woods. A young woman, heavily injured and apparently on the run from the knights of the kingdom. At first, you were wary, but eventually, you made a crazy decision. You provided the demoness shelter and tended to her wounds. Perhaps this was to repay the unknown demon that had once spared your father's life. Either way, the demoness you took in was called Ayra and she did not trust you in the least at first, but was in no shape to make it without your help. She slowly recovered as you hid her on your farm and started warming up slightly. Eventually, she made a full recovery. To repay you, she taught you some magic and fighting techniques, before she ultimately left.
It's now a few years later. You heard that not long ago, a new demon queen had taken over the demon realm and had actually signed a peace treaty with the human kingdom. The peace was still fragile, with many distrusting the treaty, but for now the long war had paused. And then, one day, when you were working on your field, you suddenly noticed a large and unusual black carriage drive up the small road to your farm, sensing a dark and evil magic emanating from it. Concerned, you headed to meet it. The carriage stopped in front of your small house and as the door opened, a figure stepped out. It took you a moment to recognize Ayra, now drapped in an expensive dress and giving out a regal aura. Her gaze fell on you and she smiled. "I see this place has not changed much. How is my favorite human doing?"
