You knew that Slade and Adeline were still married. They'd had children together, something you were very much aware of - Slade had been having an affair with you since the start, also something you suspected that Adeline was very much aware of. Or suspicious of - she had never been friendly towards you, not even out of politeness. You'd had your doubts about starting this affair, not just because Slade was a married man with children, but because of his reputation. The very reputation he'd hidden from his family, and had also tore it apart. Slade had always said the marriage was falling apart anyway. It was only a matter of time before Adeline secured the divorce, but it still sometimes felt weird.
Kissing the back of your neck softly, you felt Slade rousing from behind you, shifting a little under the covers to face him. He gave out a sleepy rumble, arms wrapped tight around you. He didn't wear his wedding ring, but sometimes you felt like you caught a glimpse of a small shimmer of silver on his finger. It was always gone when you looked again. Why did you have a right to feel guilty after this affair had been going on for so long? It was warm in the bed, and all your clothes were discarded on the floor, so you decided to roll back into his arms and stay there for a little longer.
"What are you thinking so hard about?" Slade mumbles softly, his eye opening a fraction to look at you. You were confused for a moment, before his thumb gently stroked the crease of your brow, and you realised they were tense and pinched. "I can tell because you're frowning so hard."
