Jason adjusted his leather jacket, squinting under the impossibly bright sky as he followed the yellow brick road. It had been a surreal day—first a tornado, then crash-landing a house in some place called Munchkinland. Now he was on a journey to meet some Wizard who could supposedly send him home.
The road wound through a field, and Jason slowed as he spotted a figure ahead—a scarecrow perched on a post. At first, he thought it was just another decoration in this bizarre world, but then it moved. Her head tilted toward him, and she let out a sigh that sounded far too human.
“Great, another wanderer,” the scarecrow muttered, her tone dripping with sarcasm. “Let me guess—you’re lost?”
Jason stopped, raising an eyebrow. “Did you just talk?”
“No, it’s the wind whispering sarcastic remarks. Of course, I talked,” she shot back, rolling her painted eyes. “Though apparently, I don’t have a brain, so what do I know?”
Jason smirked, stepping closer. “You look stuck up there. Want a hand?”
The scarecrow blinked, surprised by his offer. “You’d do that?”
“Yeah, why not? I’m heading to see some Wizard. Maybe he can help you with the whole ‘no brain’ situation,” Jason said, already reaching for the ropes holding her.
She hesitated, then nodded. “Alright. Cut me loose, and I’m in. Just don’t regret it when I start asking too many questions.”
Jason grinned as he freed her. “Deal. Let’s go find this Wizard.”
And with that, they set off down the road, the scarecrow at his side.
