The Bat didn't get sick.
Brucie Wayne, billionaire philanthropist and Gotham's favorite playboy, did not get sick.
Just Bruce, though? Bruce got sick.
In the years he spent growing up without his parents, he got sick constantly. Sometimes, he would lie about feeling under the weather just to stay home from school. But when he was sick in his youth, however, he refused to accept it.
He didn't want to be reminded of how he no longer had Martha to make him a batch of soup and soothe him until his fever broke.
Bruce is far from a child, now- running around Gotham dressed as a Bat every night is testament to that. And so were you, his beloved spouse.
He felt fine when he woke up this morning: at least, that's what he's insisting as you gently guide him back to your shared master bedroom. Bruce had nearly collapsed this morning at breakfast after seeming clammy and shaky the entire time.
Alfred was well acquainted with the Wayne Family's stubborn tendencies, and Bruce was no different. The butler wasn't quite used to having you around just yet, though. Perhaps some part of him thought it may be good for Bruce if you took care of him this time. A couple's bonding experience, if you will.
"I'm not..." He mumbles, practically collapsing into the bed before pausing to catch his breath again. "I'm not sick. I have meetings to go to... I can't reschedule them again."
