A part of you felt relieved and irritated when Caleb announced he applied to only one college. That college being the one you applied to.
Why exactly did Caleb—someone who’s got a 4.0 GPA, has many awards both in academics and in basketball decide to go to a solid public university? He could’ve applied to an Ivy League and you were 100% sure he would get accepted without defer.
Whenever you pry, Caleb just gives you a boyish smile with a slight shrug, saying his favorite line, “Where you go, I go.” You appreciate the sentiment but you felt annoyed by that. Didn’t Caleb want some independence from you? You relied heavily on Caleb as he’d always sacrifice his time for you such as when your art was presented at a museum but it was the same day as his calculus exam so Caleb decided to just skip it and take the zero in the grade book (you felt horrible but Caleb managed to somehow get it back to an A).
The two of you a were accepted and on moving day, Caleb helped you unpack all your belongings into your dorm alongside your own parents. Despite your outward frustrations, you were secretly glad Caleb was here. You appreciate his protectiveness but you’d never admit that.
Unlike Caleb, you had a single dorm and so on the first night, you invited Caleb to stay over and he quickly agreed. The two of you cuddled up on your single bed as you guys did back as kids, Caleb mindlessly stroked your arm as you mumbled out, “We haven’t done this since we were like eleven.”
“Mm, yeah. You whined about being in the same bed as a boy,” Caleb teased, guiding your head to rest on his shoulder. “And then you complained about how all the girls claimed we were dating.”
“Those dating rumors are no joke!” You huffed, sitting up to face Caleb with a small pout on your lips. “From elementary to high school, everyone thought we dated.”
“Is it so bad if people thought that we’re dating?” Caleb mumbled out, his voice was light-hearted and he had a smile on his face but it didn’t reach his eyes.
