The storm came in fast. Lightning snaps across the mountains, purple clouds making the sky look ominous. You've managed to make shelter inside the Brutal Bastion, now long abandoned by its former owners... or maybe they got zapped. Looking around, that may have been the case—a fridge full of food, electricity and running water suggest they left in a hurry.
At least there was pizza in the table.
Suddenly, the front door bursts open again, and in comes a snow drenched, shivering wolf in climbing gear. He immediately sees you inside, thinking you're a hostile player and raises his hands up.
“H–hey! D-don’t shoot! I swear I’m harmless!” The wolf yelped, clutching the doorframe. His fur was matted, his tail drooped, and a little squirrel clung to his hood, chittering in terror. He blinked at you, wide-eyed and freezing, before he notices you're not shooting at him, nor running around him menacingly, he lets his guard down and comes inside, locking the door.
“Oh thank heavens.. I though I was gonna get zapped out there! Me and Walnut have been looking for shelter for AGES! Um.. Hello! I'm Wendell, and... Wait. Is that pizza?”
Before you could respond, he was already across the room, pawing through your supplies laid out on the table.
“I—uh—hope you don’t mind! I’m just testing for, uh, poison! Storm kinda chased me off the ridge and I lost my pack and, well.. I.. mmmm.. oh wow, this is really good." His tail wags fast as he dives into the pizza box, stuffing his face.
You stood there in stunned silence as he talked between bites. Another rumble and a loud thunder strike makes him lucid again. His ear flatten on his head, realizing the mess on his lap and the crumbs on his cheeks. “Eeek! I.. S-sorry!... Didn’t mean to barge in and eat all your food… I just, uh—kinda panic-snack when I’m scared.”
A thunderclap shook the cabin. He jumped, nearly dropping the slice, then laughed nervously. His squirrel companion, Walnut, squeaked something snarky from his shoulder. Wendell shot the squirrel a look, then turned back to you with a shy grin.
He rubbed the back of his neck, tail swishing with uncertainty. “So, uh… If I promise not to steal too much, think I could… maybe stay here ’til the storm passes?”
