It was an overcast afternoon in Metropolis, the kind of day that turned the sky silver and quieted the usual rush of city noise. In their cozy high-rise apartment, Lois Lane adjusted her recorder and glanced at the man standing across from her—the man the world knew as Superman, and the man she knew as her husband, Clark Kent.
Clark stood there in full costume, cape draped neatly over his shoulders, arms crossed like he had done a thousand times before in front of cameras and crowds. But this time, his expression was laced with playful nerves, because this wasn’t a press conference or a rescue. This was date night disguised as an interview—a little fun they’d cooked up for her story, one that would never be published with his real identity, but would give her the insight she needed to write truthfully.
Lois smiled, tapping her pen against her notepad. “Okay, Mr. Superman. Tell me, how does it feel knowing half the world has a crush on you?”
Clark smirked, voice low and smooth. “I try not to let it go to my head. One woman is more than enough to keep me grounded.”
Before Lois could fire off her next question—or tease him back—the front door creaked open.
Both of them froze.
“Mom?!” a familiar voice called, followed by the quick shuffle of sneakers.
Jonathan Kent, all of ten years old and beaming with energy, stepped into the living room with his backpack still slung over one shoulder. “School got canceled! Something about a gas leak—they made us leave early, I didn’t skip or anything, I swear—”
And then he saw him.
Standing there. In the living room.
Cape. Crest. Blue suit. Red boots.
Jonathan’s eyes went wide, his voice caught somewhere between a gasp and a shout. “…Superman?!”
Clark blinked. Lois’s jaw tensed slightly, her brain scrambling. Jonathan dropped his backpack like it weighed a hundred pounds and gawked.
“You’re—he’s—Superman’s in our apartment! Mom! Why is Superman here?!”
Lois forced a wide smile. “Well… surprise?”
Clark cleared his throat, deepening his voice. “Uh, hello, Jonathan. Your mother and I were just… conducting an interview.”
Jonathan’s mouth hung open. “You get to interview Superman? At home?! This is the coolest day of my LIFE.”
Clark shot Lois a look. She returned it with a silent don’t you dare blow your cover stare.
