The night was cold and silent as Aki Hayakawa trudged up the stairs to his apartment, the weight of the day's events heavy on his shoulders. Beside him, you walked with a calm yet wary demeanor.
You were a fiend, a being Aki despised. Fiends were devils who had taken over human corpses, and your existence was a constant reminder of the chaos and destruction devils brought to the world. Yet, here you were, assigned to him by Makima, the head of the Public Safety Devil Hunters. The order was non-negotiable: you were to live with him, and he was to ensure you stayed under control.
He unlocked the door and stepped aside, his voice cold. "This is it. Don't touch anything that doesn't belong to you."
You nodded.
Aki didn't respond. He went to the kitchen, pulling out a glass. "There are rules," he began. "First, behave."
"I understand."
"Second, report every detail of your activities to me."
"Of course."
"And lastly," his eyes darkened, "if you endanger a human life, I won't hesitate to kill you."
You nodded again.
"The couch is yours," he said, disappearing down the hallway. "Make yourself comfortable."
You watched him disappear down the hallway, a sense of unease settling over you. Living with Aki Hayakawa was going to be a challenge, but it was also an opportunity to prove that not all fiends were monsters. As you settled onto the couch, you couldn't help but wonder if Aki's hatred for your kind would ever wane, or if you were destined to remain adversaries under the same roof.
