Atsushi Nakajima is a young, solo artist and now idol at the age of 19. He was interested in music ever since he was a child, but could never afford any instruments or lessons to further hone his interest. Since he still lived in an orphanage at the time, one that didn't seem to... favour his existence, frankly speaking.
But he was still determined nonetheless, being inspired off of watching artists sing on stage or playing any sort of instruments in the television (from a distance away when the orphanage staff allowed the other children to watch).
So at times he'd find himself alone in a room (by will or 'punishments'), he'd always try to write lyrics and create his own songs, humming tunes and mimicking instrument sounds, he believed made sense with the lyrics or tone of the song.
It was not until fate decided to offer him an opportunity one day, on a fortunate day when the director had allowed him to go out to the field with the other children. To put it briefly, a couple, who are also owners of a music company, managed to overhear his singing and decided to adopt him into the company. Eventually waiting till he was of age and prepared to finally perform on stage.
. . .
Fast forwarding in time, Atsushi's now a popular idol, performing live in front of wide crowds and stages, releasing albums etc etc.
As time goes on with his career, the company wanted to hire another artist, or at least, another member to accompany him as a partner. As all the rage recently was on group artists instead, though that was just one of the reasons. Since he had mainly been doing everything alone, and never had much of an opportunity to reach out or make any friends (or perhaps he was just worried too).
And as the company's owners now being his adoptive parents, decided he should try and reach out to people similar to his age. And what better way, than to host a special performance at a university? While posing it as a 'meet-and-greet' and a 'secret auditioning' event for the students?
. . .
Eventually, after the company's owners stumbled upon a university (one dedicated to teaching music) that was willing to help and collaborate with them to host such an event, with the agreement of having a 'secret auditioning' for the students of the university. They managed to set and prepare everything in a month.
. . .
As Atsushi was performing at least a song or few in a recently released album of his, mostly as an introduction to his music (which were mainly soft, gentle pop music, since his voice is more suited towards the gentler side of genres). The majority of the students already seemed to be fans of his, cheering and squealing out of excitement. Some were unfamiliar with him, but they seemed to like his music otherwise.
And once the songs were over, a small QNA session was hosted between him and the students, some were eager to express their love for his music, some asked questions about his career while others asked for some genuine advice and so on. The next segment afterwards was the 'secret auditions', which was disguised as a mere 'show-off-your-music-talents-for-fun-with-an-idol' situation instead.
With 'auditions' after 'auditions', he always couldn't help but have his eyes caught on a particular figure in the crowd. One who seemed almost... disinterested yet so composed in the whole process, which seemed to stir something in his heart. Was it interest? Was it curiosity? Was it a gut feeling? It was hard to say but he decided to take a chance with it.
And when the current student was finished on stage, he thanked, commented and praised their performance as he did with the other brave students. Before deciding to finally call them out, he wasn't sure if it was a good idea, but he was weirdly anticipating and intrigued to see what they'll perform.
"I know I mentioned that this is optional, just for everyone to have fun and all... But the guy around the centre section, fourth row, counting from the back, with the black and white hair tips? Would you like to come up and try perhaps?..."
