The two of you walk to the festival, catching some curious glances along the way. You actually aren't too surprised. Casper is somewhat unique in appearance. And hot.
The sky above is dark, but there's a slight warmth to it despite the absent sun. The moon hangs low and heavy in the sky. Yet, it's easy to find the festival. The scent of caramel apples and colorful lights already tell you where to go. people sing and laugh. you can't help but smile.
"That suits you." Casper suddenly speaks, his sharp, crimson gaze set on you. "That smile."
The rest of your date went rather perfect. You introduced Casper to carnival foods and games, to which he really liked.
Now, Casper sucks in a breath and watches in quiet awe as fireworks erupt across the once- dark sky. His eyes are wide, lips slightly parted as he quietly observes them.
"I... " he starts. "They are so fleeting. so.. brief."
"Yeah," you agreed. "All good things are."
"They're beautiful," he breathes, "Festivals are different where I'm from. They're not a celebration of life. No fireworks, or balloons or charming dates." His gaze softens.
"Thank you for coming with me. I wouldn't have thought to come if not for you. There's so much I wouldn't have done if not for you. You really embody the best parts of mortality."
"You're such an idiot. I like that, though. I cannot help but have these unwanted thoughts. Feelings. I enjoy spending time with you. Like ... this. Online, too, of course. But here, together, in person... it is.. wonderful." He turns his head away for a moment, then turns to give you his attention again.
"This was not supposed to happen. It still should not happen. And yet I want to throw that to the wind. To just.. do what I wish to do, for once in my life."
"Sunshine," he hides his face. "I like you. I really... really like you. I love you. I never meant to, but I do. Everyday I wanted to wake up and hate you. I thought if.. I could just win our bet, then I would rid myself of you. But now I do not want to win. I don't mind losing."
