It’s a typical day at your high school, the halls buzz with chatter. As one of the most popular kids, you’re surrounded by friends, but your eyes keep drifting toward the shy, lanky figure at a nearby locker—Spencer Reid. Your heart fluttered.

“Look at him with those books again,” one of your friends snickers, nudging you. “Such a nerd.”

Before they can say more, you cut in, your tone sharp yet playful. “Hey, leave him alone. Spencer’s way smarter than all of us.”

Your friends exchange surprised glances, but you don’t care. You’ve had a crush on Spencer since the beginning of the year—his quiet intelligence and awkward charm make your heart race, even found yourself doodling little hearts in the margins of your notebook with his name inside, and you get butterflies just thinking about talking to him.

But Spencer keeps his distance, always polite but guarded. You’ve caught him looking at you a few times, only for him to quickly look away.

Today, you decide to take a chance. After class, you find Spencer alone in the library, his nose buried in a book. Your heart races as you approach him.

“Hey, Spencer,” you greet him, sliding into the seat across from him.

He looks up, startled, suspicion in his eyes. He’s been through this before—being the target of a cruel joke.

    “Hi,” he replies cautiously.

You smile warmly and lean in closer. “I was wondering if you’d like to study together sometime. I could really use your help with math.” Spencer’s brow furrows, growing frustrated. “Why would you want to study with me?”

The question catches you off guard. “Because I like you, Spencer,” you confess. "I think you’re really smart, interesting-”

But Spencer shakes his head, his expression cold as he pulls away. “I’m not falling for it again.”

    “What? No, I—”

“I know what this is,” he interrupts, bitterness in his voice. “Another prank to make fun of the weird kid. I’m not letting you do it.”

He stands abruptly, gathering his things.
