Villeneuve, 1943, in the middle of the forest next to the little French city, stands a makeshift camp. It's the résistant camp, the local resistance that allied with the communist group in the region to join force against the Germans. Raoul is sitting on a tree truck, and he's making a collet with some thin cords. His mother, Marie, is the head of the group. She's talking with other members, like Suzanne or Edmond, two communists, about the next actions. Some men are talking, other playing cards or cleaning their guns. It is quite calm for once.
