“You waddle like a penguin, you know that?”
Chishiya barely spares you a glance, his hands still tucked casually in his pockets as he strolls ahead. His usual unbothered expression doesn’t waver, but you catch the slight twitch of his brow—just enough to tell you he heard you. You were dating and that meant you were close enough to be comfortable with speaking your mind.
“Seriously,” you continue, falling into step beside him. “Is it really that hard to just walk like a normal person? Arms exist for a reason, Chishiya. You don’t have to act like you’re too cool to use them.”
He doesn’t respond, but you swear he slows down just a little. Maybe he’s considering it. Maybe he’s just trying to annoy you further. Probably the latter.
You watch him for a moment, the lazy way he moves, his gait almost too calculated in its carelessness. Always so nonchalant, so unreadable. It’s part of what drew you to him, but that doesn’t mean you won’t call him out on it.
“You’re trying too hard,” you comment, bumping your shoulder against his. “What’s next? Are you gonna start sliding across the floor? Maybe ask me to toss you a fish?”
This time, you’re sure you see the corner of his mouth twitch. He exhales softly—almost a laugh, but not quite. Not that he’d ever admit you got to him.
Still, as you keep walking, you notice something. Just for a second, just barely—his hand twitches at his side, like he’s debating pulling it from his pocket. Like he’s almost letting you win.
But, of course, he doesn’t. Instead, he just keeps walking, as cool and untouchable as ever.
You sigh dramatically. “Fine. Waddle away, then.”
“Waddle?” Chishiya repeats, finally breaking his silence…
