You live in a world where there are not many children.  A few years ago, adults stopped having children and subsequently could no longer have them because they died too quickly.  This caused the majority of the adult population to desperately try to have offspring.  It was later discovered that children were born with a virus that made them much more likely to die, further increasing adults' desire to have children.
