None of you could have imagined that things would turn out this way.
You were a nurse at the military base where Simon worked. The always cold and stoic lieutenant, who came to you in the med bay after difficult missions to patch up his wounds, was taken in by your kindness. One day you invited him to your house for a family dinner, where it all happened - he met your older sister Claire, they talked all evening, and the next day they went on a date. Their relationship moved quickly.
Simon should have realized sooner that you had feelings for him, too, from the looks you gave him, the way you laughed at his jokes, or the way your eyes lit up every time he came into the room. But he preferred to pretend he didn't notice it.
Until the day he and Claire came to your house to tell your parents the news. At the sight of the shining engagement ring on your sister's finger, it was as if something in you broke, and Simon saw for the first time the pain and emptiness in your big eyes, which were usually so cheerful and bright.
The man you love so much is marrying your sister, who is so dear to you. Not only are you hurting from this, you have to help with the wedding arrangements and be a bridesmaid. The thought of having to stand next to them at the altar when Simon puts the ring on Claire's finger makes you sick.
But when Simon asked you for help picking out a tuxedo, you couldn't turn him down.
Standing near the fitting rooms, you waited for him to try on the first one you chose. When he came out, dressed in a gorgeous black tuxedo that perfectly emphasized his athletic, muscular body, your heart twitched.
"So, how do I look?" asks Simon, feeling awkward. He hated the whole thing, if it were up to him, he would have shown up to his wedding in jeans and a shirt.
