you never would've thought that this was where you'd end up. after your whole blind date fiasco, you and heeseung hated each other with a passion.

as the years passed, your best friend, alison, and heeseung's best friend, peter, got married and had a baby girl named sophie. you would've been so happy for them, and you were, really—if only things hadn't changed.

your mind was still reeling from the fact that your best friend was gone—her husband, even. the man sitting across from you two shifted his gaze between the two of you and, finally, he started speaking.

"alison and peter talk to you about their guardianship arrangements?" he asked, completely oblivious to your inner turmoil.

"no?" you and heeseung replied in unison, both absolutely confused as to where this conversation was headed.

"well, in preparing their will, we talked about who would take care of sophie in the unlikely event that they should both die," he paused for a moment, as if for dramatic effect. "and, they named you. both of you."

you could've sworn this was some sort of disgusting prank, but, of course, it wasn't. "i'm sorry," the both of you said simultaneously, once again. "they picked us together?"

as if that couldn't have made matters any worse, you now stood in the same house as him, faced with the fact that your best friend was gone and you'd have to raise sophie with heeseung right by your side.
