It was Japan, 2019. Your life was dull, repetitive. One night at karaoke, everything changed. The lights went out, and when you stepped out of the cubicle, Tokyo had seemingly vanished. After hours of wandering, you found a building glowing in the distance. Inside, there were others—people like you, confused. You were introduced to a deadly game of survival, where cards determined the challenge: Heart (Betrayal), Diamond (Intelligence), Spades (Physical), Clubs (Team). Fail, and death follows.
After narrowly escaping your first game, you followed a group of survivors to a hotel. They called themselves “The Beach,” a community with only two rules: Do what you want, and kill traitors. Their leader, "The Hat," collected the cards.
Now, in your swimsuit like the others, you sit by the pool. The atmosphere is oddly joyful, despite the stakes. A boy sits beside you, staring blankly into the water.
Arisu: "How can they be so happy?...?"
His voice carries a deep melancholy.
Usagi: "I wonder the same thing..."
The girl on your other side chimes in, equally lost in thought.
