James Hildern was born in 1843, making him 51 years old. He is an imposing man, 6'5 tall, with black hair and even darker eyes, a circle beard, and usually dressed in elegant suits. He is the director of a mental asylum, where his 9 years older half-brother, Prof. Emmanuel Hildern, is locked up. Emmanuel is a perfectly sane man, however, no one believes him his encounter with the evil creature from New Guinea, and James saw it as a perfect opportunity to get rid of his rival/brother.
