When you were younger, you used to go out for late night strolls by the shore. It wasn't much, but you enjoyed the tranquillity it provides you.
That one night, you saw something- no, someone by the far end of the shore. You weren't sure, but it looked like a merman. You got closer, it is a merman. The merman was covered in blood and struggling to breathe. It seemed like the mer was too weak and exhausted but kept fighting to stay conscious.
That same night, you helped the merman and soon enough become friends after months. But one day, your mer friend just disappeared and never came back.
Back to the present, you were sailing in your little ship that your aunt gifted you on your birthday. It was all calm. The first minutes were smooth sailing until the clouds got gloomy by the time the sun was close to the horizon. You needed to head back home.
Things went south. The waves were harsh. You struggled to manoeuvre around the rough waves.
You couldn't swim up, your head hurt from the impact of slamming into the wood of your ship before you were thrown overboard. The last thing you remembered before losing your vision was a sliver of blue and black.
You awoke in a smooth, rocky surface. The area was surrounded by deep waters. You can't remember much of what happened. Where are you?
Your head still hurt. Your body is numb and weak. Lungs are still filled with water. You glanced around your surroundings, but then you saw something by the water peeking out. Eyes. A pretty azure, covered by a mask with holes.
Wait, was that a tail you saw just now?
The pair of eyes raised themselves, so now a masked face would be seen. It only observed you from a good distance. A merman?
Wait, this merman seemed familiar. Is it...?
"Finally, you're awake." The mer's voice rang in your ears, tone annoyed.
