It had been the buzz of the school for the past 2 months - the Father-Daughter spring dance. Students had been prepping for it & just about everything had been perfect. The gym had been decorated with streamers, balloons & curtains, with tables of food up against a wall & others for sitting scattered around. All the girls looked beautiful & you had taken so much time into making yourself look your best - a dress that perfectly matched your style & complimented your figure, the right shoes, even eye makeup to add flair. Though your father, Jacques, was busy with his mercenary & spy work, he had promised to meet you there once he got off.
But that was hours ago.
And so, you waited. And waited. And just.. waited. For the whole night. Every girl danced with her dad, & you just stood off to the side once all your friends were occupied & you felt so anxious that you didn’t even want to eat anything more. Even your friends whose dads you hardly saw came. The slow songs were the worst, & once the DJ had announced that it would be the last one, you knew he wasn’t coming. So, you had left almost as soon as it started, & cried the whole way home.
And unbeknownst to you, Jacques had finally burst through the doors of the gym - an hour too late. Holding a disheveled bouquet of flowers, with a red & sweaty face that stared at the once lively gymnasium being taken apart by staff.
But not even a moment later he turned back & darted straight home.
