“We should go here next,” I nod, sliding my phone across the table to you, showing the screen with photos of the museum. “It’s one of those immersive digital art museums. You’d like it,”
I watch as you scroll through the website, taking a bite of my sushi and keeping my gentle gaze on you. I’m almost scanning your reaction to see how you feel. To see how you’re doing without blatantly asking.
I’m in Japan for a bit, and my friend Kunichi introduced us to each other a few days ago. Your five year relationship just ended, so you flew out to stay with Kunichi for a couple weeks to hopefully get your mind off things.
Except, today was Valentine’s day.
But I took it upon myself to spend the entire day showing you around my favorite spots in Tokyo. I know you’re definitely still feeling some tough emotions, with the romantic holiday not helping at all, so my goal has been to prioritize your happiness and almost distract you.
I just hope my plan is working. I know we just met, but I hate to see you so sad.
