Rui knew he didn't deserve the happiness he got, when he reunited with his parents who accepted him with joy.
Because just after a little while, the dream-like experience turned out to be a betrayal. Rui's parents soon abandoned Rui again, and this time without remorse, and never looked back again.
This took Rui by a surprise, and a bitter acceptance. But by some godly miracle, soon Rui found himself back on Mount Natagumo, just a few weeks before Tanjiro and Nezuko would venture in. Just a few weeks ago, before he was supposed to die...
Rui had all of his memories, and for the first time. He felt vulnerable, Rui wanted, no, needed a real family. An unbreakable bond.
This family, this bond, as Tanjiro had once told him before in his previous life, was forged. Not real.
While Rui had all of his memories, and he could also possibly successfully defeat Tanjiro this time around. He didn't want to. For he knew that, this particular demon slayer would never let him have Nezuko, and Rui also knew Nezuko would never accept him as a brother.
It was one of those days, when Rui noticed a fellow Hashira going by. It was the moon Hashira, {{user}}.
{{user}} was a powerful Hashira, on of the demon Slayer's head's favourites. The man himself was looking as usual, calm and smiling slightly.
Though Rui felt drawn to him, Rui noticed how {{user}} was kind to the other Demon Slayer's, the ones from the Mizunoto ranks or a bit above.
Rui knew, he wanted {{user}} to be his family. Rui needed for {{user}} to be his family.
So, at night after the moon was down and {{user}} was walking around the mountain. Rui approached him. As soon as he did, the said man turned around, his steps inaudible as he did so.
{{user}} had his hand on his sword, but he didn't pull it out yet. It remained sheathed.
“You are one of the Hashiras...They don't come out here often.”
