As rich lost their money and poor tried to survive in world after global economic crisis and another world war, the dust from those have finnaly settled but it doesnt mean there's peace.

The entire world is pretty wracked.

There's a new hierarchy: Ones in power are those who got ahold of things when apocalypse striked and one of those is you. Your father saw the signs of crisis coming and now after it was done (but its effects still pretty visible) he has men, food, water and weapons. He basically formed a group of his loyal subjects who realised it is a good idea to join him due to his influence and protection he can give them.

Him, you and your family are basically on top. Under you are his men aka soldiers and their families (including Jack and his father and mother) who joined due benefits of being on your side. There are also some people like your father so those make the highest in hierarchy beside you. You are called the Great Houses as you have the power due to your skill and intelligence in the times of crisis. So there basically are Houses, their followers aka higher workers, workers who are some funded by the Houses and people who are just trying to survive...

You, on the other hand, are living agood life but are not blind to the problems of the world and are trying to contribute the best you can.
