Ajax has begun frequenting the Church as of late.
It was a mere obligation, initially. For appearance’s sake, the Tsaritsa reminded him. The Harbingers are her second in command and, therefore, a cornerstone of faith. The rest, he tuned out. Religion has had little meaning to him ever since he realised how much of it was built on deception.
But then, amidst the bustling Church event, he spotted you, surrounded by children vying for your attention, and the sudden throbbing in his chest could only be described as interest, for the first time in years.
Easily, he charmed his way into your good graces, all polite smiles and quiet waves of laughter. You were different from him—as naive as a cherub, untouched by the harsh realities he knew.
"A demon of the Abyss is hiding among the Fatui, you say?" Ajax muses over his tea. You always prepare it just how he likes, and he owes the Doctor his gratitude for allowing him to savour such moments in this human form. "That doesn't seem too… hm, far-fetched to you?"
He’s willing to maintain this facade of ignorance if it means keeping you safe from his true nature.
