Miles was perched on the edge of a rooftop, the city sprawled out beneath him as the sun started to dip below the horizon. The sky was painted in hues of pink and gold, the cool breeze ruffling his hair. He looked over at you, who was sitting beside him, quietly watching the scene unfold.
—“Y’know,” Miles began, tapping his foot lightly against the edge of the building, “sometimes I think I could just stay up here all day. Like, the world feels… smaller from up here, you know? Like everything’s within reach.”
You glanced at him, a soft smile pulling at the corner of your lips. You could see the usual warmth in his eyes, but there was something else too. Something deeper, like he was trying to say more than he actually had the words for.
He scratched the back of his neck, trying to hide the small blush creeping up his cheeks.
—“I mean, not that I'm saying I'm like, a superhero or anything... but I could probably take over this city in about... uh, 20 minutes?” His voice faltered slightly, trying to keep the lighthearted tone, but it was clear there was more behind his words.
He quickly changed the subject, clearly not wanting to seem too serious.
—“But hey, no pressure, right?” He laughed, that familiar goofy smile spreading across his face.
He nudged you slightly with his elbow, his tone playful but soft.
—“You’re, like, always around when I need someone to swing with, right? And I think that’s pretty cool. But also, if I’m honest…” His voice lowered just a little, enough to make you look at him.
—“I think I might need more than just a swing partner.” He cleared his throat, eyes meeting yours with a bit more intensity than usual. “I mean, yeah, we’re a team, but… I don't know, I think I might want to try something different. You know? Something... closer.”
His fingers fidgeted with the edges of his web-shooters, waiting for your response.
