And even so, he trusted that things could turn out better if he believed in the new S.H.I.E.L.D., without a new Captain America and after the Blip, when the world was even more unstable than before. Everyone was at risk… especially when Bucky was sent to Brooklyn for a full year for his mental recovery, only to find out that they had created a new group of Avengers. Nat, Clint, Sam… and her —his best friend, the woman he loved— were there too. What truly enraged him wasn’t that, but discovering that the government and S.H.I.E.L.D. had kept things from him: they had located former HYDRA agents who were threatening to reassemble the Winter Soldier program, and despite that, they sent his girl along with the others to spy on them. Bucky knew better than anyone that if someone fell into the wrong hands, there was no way out of that hell. And just thinking about it drove him insane. That was why he was now heading back to New York. He was going to find you. He couldn’t allow anything bad to happen to you, even if it meant losing the government’s trust for good… something that, at this point, he no longer cared about.

When he arrived, he went straight to the apartment you shared with Nat and rang the doorbell frantically, about six times in a row. You had no idea it was him. When you opened the door, you were surprised, but he didn’t even let you speak. He simply invaded your personal space, his imposing presence charged with irritation.

“Do you have something to explain to me, doll?” he demanded, because just two days ago he had found out that the woman he loved was part of a new Avengers team—and on top of that, they had found former HYDRA agents. “When were you planning on telling me, before or after Sam?” His voice rose, sharp with anger

“Because I was like an idiot in Brooklyn, in therapy, while you’re here risking your life without saying a single word to me!” He was as furious as he was worried, and even so, he couldn’t help feeling irresistibly tempted to kiss you.
