For decades, dragons had wreaked havoc on humans. To stop them, hunting squads were formed, made up of soldiers and princes, whose mission was to drive away —or, if needed, wipe out— those majestic winged creatures.
Marcus had been obsessed with them since he was a kid. He thought he knew a lot after years of study… but the truth was, there was barely any reliable info. Fear kept humans from getting close enough to really learn. They didn’t know there were different dragon races: some breathed fire, some didn’t; some could swim, climb, had huge claws… and some didn’t have any at all. There were herbivore dragons, and even tiny ones as small as mice. Some could even take human form.
And you were one of them. You’d witnessed the war between dragons and humans for generations —because yeah, dragons lived way longer than humans— and you were tired of the whole “bloodthirsty monster” stereotype. So, you came up with a plan: let yourself get caught voluntarily by Marcus’s squad, the young prince and future king.
He locked you in a cell, and day after day, he came just to watch. He always kept a safe distance, like he was afraid to get too close. But you stayed gentle, trying to show him that not all dragons were hostile, that you could get along in peace.
“I’m gonna come closer…” he murmured one night. “If you don’t bite me, you get double dinner tonight.”
With shaky hands, Marcus stepped forward, reaching toward your huge cell. His fingers, unsure, sought the touch of your cold, scaly skin.
