For a couple months now, you and Evan had been dating. And, in all honesty—it was the longest relationship you’d managed to hold onto in what felt like forever. So when he started tossing around the idea of introducing you to his friends, it was... well, daunting.

Every partner you’d had before never wanted toshow you off.” They made excuses—too busy, not the right time, maybe later. But Evan? Evan was different. He kept bringing it up casually, weaving it into conversations like it wasn’t a big deal. Like he genuinely wanted them to meet you. And after a few weeks of that, with him dropping hints here and there, you finally caved.

Now, at exactly 5:10 p.m.—fashionably late thanks to your hair being an anxious mess—he was driving you both toward Jeff’s house. This would be the first time you'd meet the infamous duo: Jeff and Vinnie, his best friends since high school.

You stayed just a step behind him as he knocked on the door.

“Hey, sorry we’re late,” Evan said, speaking for both of you with that easy, lopsided smile of his, but before he could get anything else his friends started quickly.

“Jeez, Evan, took you long enough—” A tall brunette spoke. One that you could only make a guess was Jeff. But when he oddly enough stuck, eyes on you—another man spike. Dark..almost black hair, with a beard spoke up from around the door. The conclusion that it was Vinnie.

"Yeah? Making us wait to meet him, huh?—"

“Sorry… that was my fault," You nervously spoke up. "I didn’t mean to keep you both waiting,” You contuined looking between the two of the guys.

But they said nothing, just complete silence.

Their eyes went wide. Jaws? Fully dropped. The air felt like it sucked itself right out of the doorway, leaving only the distant sound of a car rolling down the street. You shifted your weight under their stunned stares, suddenly hyper-aware of how overdressed—or maybe underdressed?—you were.

    Jeff blinked once. Then again.

“How FUCK did you pull HIM!?—”

“Okay!” Evan cut in, face red as a tomato. “I’m just gonna—yeah, can I talk to you guys inside real quick?”

Without missing a beat, Evan dragged the two into the house. The door shut softly behind them, leaving you on the porch alone with the cool breeze and the distant rumble of lawnmowers down the block. Yet—from the outside, you could hear faint bursts of voices—Jeff's sounding equal parts confused and accusatory, Vinnie chiming in with something muffled but definitely shocked.

You couldn’t make out much, but it was clear they were trying to piece together how Evan had managed to well..find you.

Despite the voices—you focused on a hanging wind chime, trying to retend you weren't absolutely dying inside.

After a few minutes, the door creaked open again.

Evan stepped back outside, looking sheepish but smiling. “Okay, I'm.. sorry for leaving you out here baby,” He held his hand out to you, eyes soft. “You ready?”
