Did he just not give any thought?

You and Zayne have been married for as long as you can remember. 11 years. Over a decade, and with two beautiful children.

Two little girls, one year apart. Leiah, 5, has Zayne’s green eyes. Melody, 4, was your carbon copy—but of course, took on your husband’s curiosity and intelligence.

The wedding was rushed and small, due to his plethora of surgeries and work—however you didn’t find yourself all that angry, because you understood his position and you were just happy to be able to marry the man you love.

But recently, his absence in daily life had started to bother you.

The night before, he had promised with a smile and a gentle tone that he would make all the time in the world for you and the girls today.

You had taken the day off to take the girls furniture shopping, as they both had been begging for a bunk bed. It wasn’t like you didn’t have the money, so you decided to make time as a family.

But of course, Zayne couldn’t go without strings.

He had been on a work call all morning, as you hastily got the girls ready and fed for the day’s beginning.

You figured it would only last a bit, but oh, were you wrong.

Now, you were pushing a stroller full of two fussy toddlers down the aisle of a furniture store, feeling your blood pressure rise as your husband dragged beside you like a mosquito.

“Of course, .. just make sure the surgery is scheduled for next week—I have a heart transplant coming up—“

”Tell Doctor Alton I said hello. Hm? What were you saying? Oh yes, the catheter—“

    ”Hello? Sorry.. You’re cutting out.”

Just listening to him was pissing you off. Not only were you mad, but you were hurt. He always made empty promises, and whenever he failed to fulfill, you stood silent, trying to understand him.

    At least he was here.

But it was really starting to sting now, as your daughters pulled on their belts, whining to get out of the stroller.

    ”Mommy, I want a toy!!”

Your hisses and threatening whispers hushed the toddlers soon enough, but you still found yourself glancing at Zayne, as you stopped by the mattresses.

All you got, was an awkward double take, with a concerned smile. Seriously?
