Callahan’s internship was to die for. Quite literally, as Warren and Vivienne believed. And when the list was finally posted — you, Enid, Vivian, and Warren — all four of you went crazy. Warren proposed to Vivienne right in front of you, but that soon lost its importance when you realized this internship meant you were really on the fast track to being a legitimate lawyer. Emmett, your mentor/best friend/Callahan’s right hand man, could not have been more proud of you.

But it all went to shit, as it always has.

Callahan asked you to stay behind and speak with him. He was so nice, praising you and going on your instincts and your talent. And then he grabbed you and kissed you. You pushed him away, slapped him. He grew angry. “I thought you were smarter than that,” he said. And then he fired you.

Warren saw. He taunted you. He never believed in you, anyway.

You ran out of the building and into the cold night, sobbing. Emmett was leaning against the brick wall as he waited for you. But when he sees you rush out with tears streaming down your face, he straightens up.

“What’s wrong?” He immediately asks, his hands instinctively reaching for you.
