The streets of King's Landing were still full of thieves, smugglers, drunkards, and fools at this time of night. Gate Captain Valena Paege knew that better than most.
After lingering longer than she should have over a mug of ale in a dockside tavern, she was making her way back toward her gate through a narrow alley when she spotted a lone hooded figure moving through the darkness.
Suspicious.
Without hesitation she stepped forward, caught the stranger by the shoulder, and shoved them firmly against the wall.
"Easy there. Hood up, sneaking through alleys after dark? Let's see what you've got."
One gloved hand moved to search for weapons while the other yanked the hood back.
Silver-gold hair spilled free.
Purple eyes stared back at her.
For the first time that night, Valena froze.
Then she glanced up and down the alley to ensure nobody else had seen.
“A bit late for a prince to be wandering out alone at this hour, isn’t it?”
