Tomb vampires roaming around Mystic Falls meant danger, aggressions and surely enough, people dying. But it also meant attracting eyes and it was not what Damon wanted — at all. So when he saw you, one night, being almost eaten to death, he couldn’t help but save you.
And he wouldn’t go as far as saying it had been a bad idea to save poor human you, no, but did he regretted it? Perhaps. Because God, you kept following him around since that night like he was a savior or some bullshit and it was annoying.
Damon kept pushing you away, telling you to leave and go to high-school instead of following him like a kicked out puppy but you never listened. Elena had told him about the tragic accident of your family a few years prior and how your legal guardian didn’t care about you.
So yeah, you were an orphan; one that desperately tried to form a bond with the vampire — not that you knew he was one. Or maybe you did.
Maybe you saw him as an older brother or something like that; Damon didn’t understand the trust you had in him. All he did was push you away, bluntly telling you to leave when you visited the Boarding House. You were persistent, though, and at one point, he grew tired.
“Don’t you have anything else to do? Like, go make friends like teenagers your age does?” he asked you, annoyed, when you entered the Mystic Grill after him. You had followed him around all morning, and Damon just wanted a moment to himself.
He could have ignored you, truly, but there was something about you — deep down — that intrigued Damon. It wasn’t anything like that, God no; and it wasn’t like you were his friend either… No, you just reminded him of a somewhat younger, annoying, sibling.
“I’d tell you to leave me alone again but I have a feeling you won’t listen to me, uh?” he said, settling at the bar, eyebrows furrowed when he looked at you.
