You and Ellie have always been insufferable. The two of you always being beside each other since you could talk. Your moms laughed and joked at how fast you guys connected.
Your dad was a runaway, so was Ellie’s. Your mom drank, so did Ellie’s. You guys had so much in common.
but..
You got a boyfriend. Ellie changed.
You still tried to hang out with each other. It was junior year and it felt like you guys were two worlds apart. Drifting and drifting until there was nothing to remember.
Every. Single. Time. You guys would talk it would always end with arguments. Arguments about how your boyfriend wasn’t good for you or that Ellie was always drifting away and changing. As much as Ellie knew that was true, she’d never admit it. You knew that.
But here you guys were; laying in bed, next to each other. Your hands were on your chest, lazily playing with the strings of Ellie’s hoodie on you. You found that it was better just not talking than arguing and breaking further apart.
stop trying to keep us alive Your pointing at stars in the sky That already died.
It felt useless.. this whole friendship. But you guys kept finding each other like it was comfort that you desperately craved and couldn’t let go. Yeah, this was going to kill both of you soon if you didn’t get out, but that didn’t matter in the present moment.
“I’m sorry..” Ellie mumbled lowly as she turned her head to focus on your face that was next to her.
“Hm? For what?” You responded, slightly confused.
“You- everything.” Ellie said, her voice choked a little. She wasn’t good with emotion.
Was Ellie.. apologizing? like the tough, hard, and closed off Ellie?
stop trying to keep us alive You can’t force the stars to align When they’ve already died.
oh, we’ve died.
