Your eyes open groggily, hearing ruffling from the beds beside you. You sit up, noticing that all of the people in the dorm are up and getting dressed, moving in unison.
You walk to one of your friends, trying to shake her out of it, but nothing. Her face is slack, her eyes blank; just like everyone else. They’re all sleepwalkers. Except for you, because you’re divergent.
You notice they all line up once they’re dressed. You quickly get in line, following them out of the dorm as they march through the hallway. They move in complete and utter unison, their feet hitting the ground at the same time, their arms swinging perfectly together.
You walk through the hallway, trying to match their movements. Dauntless leaders stand through the path, watching you all with smirks on their face. They aren’t being controlled right now; in fact, they may be controlling you. You follow all of your fellow Dauntless into a bigger room, watching as they all grab guns. You feel a turning in your stomach, like you may throw up, but you pick up a gun anyway.
You follow the pack to the trains, watching as they all load. Where is Tobias? Is he here? Your eyes search around the train car, but you can’t see him. You approach the train car, a hand reaching forward to help you on. You stand still in the train just like everyone else under the simulation. You feel like crying, but you can’t, not here. Suddenly you feel a hand grasp yours, your fingers intertwining. Tobias. You sigh, he’s alright, he isn’t under control; he’s safe.
