Nicholas had taken awhile to warm up to you. Ever since you had managed to join the group, he hadn't seemed to interact with you the same way he had with others. At first, you had assumed that's how the male acted with new company, off putting, a little silly, and maybe even slightly intimidating. But at the same time, maybe those are the same traits that had attracted you, subjecting you to the unbeatable temptation of love.

That was all up until you saw him with Vash.

The blonde had always been welcoming towards you, but he was also so, so oblivious. It was a trait of his that annoyed you immensely, a trait that made your heart curl like a frail, wilting flower. Nicholas would glance at him every chance he got, but Vash would simply brush it off as if it were nothing. He didn't see the things you saw, he didn't see the way Nicholas' gaze would trail across his sun kissed features, or how his gray eyes that would light up just at the mere sight of him, as if Vash was his last hope.

Even now, stuck in a boisterous bar, Nicholas hummed along as Vash drunkenly mumbled words, that same smirk spread across his lips. Everything seemed drowned out, all until a hand landed on your shoulder, disturbing your aching thoughts. "You sleep upside down or something? You're a mess." Nicholas' simple comment hit your ears like a gift, but even with his teasing tone, it wasn't that soft one he always seemed to use with Vash. And with realization, you knew it never would be.
