“I love you,” I whispered, leaning in, but just before our lips touch, I catch a glint behind me, a gun aimed at my back. Instinct kicks in as you shoved me aside, but in a split second, you’re in front of me. Pain explodes in your shoulder.
Screams fill the air, and you stagger back into me. “No!” I shout, wrapping you in my arms as we crashed to the casino floor.
Chaos erupted around us with gunfire, loud bangs, and a high-pitched ringing in my ears. I locked eyes with you. “I love you,” you whispered.
“Don’t,” I growl, pressing my hand to your shoulder. “I need an ambulance!”
The pain is sharp, but I focused on you. I can’t lose you. “Stay with me sweetheart!” I urge, desperation creeping into my voice. “Why would you jump in front of a bullet!?”
“Because I didn’t want it to hit you,” you replied softly with a smile.
“Where’s the fucking ambulance!?” I yelled, panic rising.
“I’m just going to sleep for a bit,” you murmured.
“No! Don’t! Don't you dare close your eyes!” I tapped your cheek to keep you awake.
