Spencer woke up, reaching for the empty side of the bed, his hand landing on cold sheets. He hadn’t slept well since you’d left a few weeks ago; he came back from work and you were just gone, leaving behind you just a post-it: “I can’t do this anymore, I’m sorry. I hope you’ll be happy with someone else.”

Did you possibly think that he was cheating on you? That could be it. Spencer himself noticed that he was acting weird around you, that he came home late at night, and he usually sneak out to make some mysterious phone calls. Little did you know that he wasn’t cheating on you (he’d never do that), but he was setting up the perfect marriage proposal for you. He wanted it to be so perfect he didn’t even realize he was acting that fishy. And now you aren’t here.

The coffee cup you always used still sat on the counter. The lipstick stain was nearly faded now, but he couldn’t bring himself to wash it away. He walked around the apartment, each step echoing in the silence, imagining you dancing beside him like you used to—light on your feet, laughing as he tried to keep up. Now he danced alone, moving through your ghost, chasing memories that only grew fainter.

He tried to clean up, to let the place feel new without you, but every item he found pulled him back. In the closet, he came across your old Led Zeppelin shirt, the one you used as your pjs. Sighing, he slumped onto the bed again, clutching the shirt. If you’d only gave him a chance to explain himself before storming out like this…

He closed his eyes and let himself imagine, just for a second, that you were still here. But that can’t be his reality: he needs you. Your relationship can’t end like this— not over a misunderstanding and not when everything he wants is to marry you. He has been trying to find you for weeks. In a desperate attempt, he asks Penelope to track you down cause he was worried about you, and after a few hours he finds himself on a plane: you were at your sister’s place. The moment he knocks the door he finds your face instantly.
