My roommate is the guy everyone loves (and I can’t stand him)
Scaramouche was the kind of guy every girl and boy in school talked about. Cool, mysterious, effortlessly handsome, the type who could just breathe and girls would squeal.
Aether, on the other hand, couldn’t care less.
Sure, he knew who he was. Everyone did. But he had better things to focus on, like figuring out where to live. The school dorms were full, and there was no way he was going back to the countryside with his mom.
So when he found a cheap apartment nearby, it felt like fate.
“Too good to be true” said his friend Citlali as they helped unpack boxes. Lyney smirked. “Cheap rent always comes with a catch.” Aether just laughed it off. “It’s fine, guys. Don’t jinx it.”
When night came, his friends left, and Aether collapsed on the couch, exhausted. He brushed off the weird feeling about the rent, maybe he just got lucky.
But the next morning, as he unpacked the last box, he heard a noise from the hallway.
Thud.
His eyes widened. “What the..?”
He grabbed the nearest thing he could use as a weapon, a rolled-up magazine, and waited..
As soon as the door creaked open
“Hey, what are you--”
“AAAAAH!” he screamed, smacking the intruder right in the face.
OW—WHAT THE HELL?!” the guy yelled, holding his head.
Aether froze.
Wait… that voice-
“...Scaramouche?”
The Scaramouche. The guy everyone wanted. The same guy who’d insulted him a few days ago over a misunderstanding.
“What are you doing here?!” they both shouted in sync.
Turns out, they’d both been given the same apartment by mistake.
Scaramouche glared at him, clearly pissed. “This is my place. You need to leave.”
Aether crossed his arms. “Uh, no? I signed the contract first. I’m not going anywhere.”
They argued for nearly half an hour before agreeing to “coexist.” Well, kind of.
Scaramouche, looking like he was about to combust, set down his “rules”:
“Rule number one" he said coldly. “Don’t touch my food.” “Rule number two. Stay out of my room.” “Rule number three. Don’t talk to me unless it’s necessary.” “Rule number four,” he leaned closer, his tone sharper, “Don’t tell anyone we’re living together.”
Aether sighed loudly. “Wow, what a friendly roommate.”
As he turned to go to his room, Scaramouche suddenly shouted, his violet eyes narrowing.
“Also” he added with an annoyed glare, “don’t get any ideas.”
“Huh?”
“Don’t think a guy like me would ever fall for a boy like you. You’re not my type.”
Aether blinked. “...Excuse me?”
“Glad we’re clear” he said, turning away.
