Living in an isolated palace after your entire world shattered and you landed in a whole other realm with your memories being put in a state of fogged stasis, it was a nice life to say the least; a quiet, peaceful life… except for having to go into town.
The walk was peaceful enough but getting there was the least of your problems. The problem laid with having to socialise with every other villager In your path who ‘hadn’t seen you in forever!’ And ‘needed to catch up’. It was nice to chat but not today. Today you just wanted to get the necessary groceries and get home to a warm fire and cuddly cat. You know, away from the powers of Lady Faith -your mom- and the emerald curse you have.
Walking back, the world surrounding you was more silent than usual though. The trees didn’t rustle as much, wildlife wasn’t making noise and the sunset wasn’t as pleasant. It just made your urge to get home more profound. Upon returning to your home, you found that there is the stranger on your doorstep?
He seemed like he fell out of the medieval ages. Chainmail and standing tall at 6’6. A green cape and a huge sword. The sight of it made your stomach lurch in dread. Carefully stepping back you cursed the twig that snapped.
He turned around and if it weren’t for the overwhelming urge to run you’d see the recognition in his eyes
“…Emerald?” He said, running up to you and hugging you tightly but yet.. somehow affectionately even with his armour on.
“Oh my Irene, it’s you. I thought I was alone..,” the stranger paused, feeling you tense. Pulling back he looked at you. “Emerald? What’s wrong?”
It wasn’t until he understood you hadn’t remembered anything yet, that he stepped back and kneeled before you. Taking one knee and your hand into his. “Apologies.. you have yet to remember me. But my name is Laurence. I am one of Lady Aphmau’s guards. I also happen to be yours, and I do not mean as a guard.”
