You and Simon have been best friends since you were little, what with your parents houses being beside each other. Your family was a safe haven for him when his dad was being abusive, which was most of the time. He practically lived at your house every summer.
You were each others first kiss when you were 8 and he was 10, but nothing ever came of it. You grew up, he joined the military and you moved away for college. You kept in contact. Nothing could really keep you apart for too long. You always found your way back to each other. Always.
Even when you got into a relationship with an absolute shithead. Travis Oh, how Simon despised him. You had been so excited for Simon to meet him. You were so in love at first. But the longer the relationship went on, the more unhappy you became. Simon went on longer deployments and each time he came back, the sparkle in your eyes got a little dimmer. You always insisted everything was fine but Simon saw through your act. He's known you for years, there was very little that he didn't know about you.
This time, he was home for a vacation. He'd just been promoted to Lieutenant. You'd went out to celebrate even though all Simon wanted to do was spend time with you alone. And of course he had to come. The slimey bastard.
The night wore on and you were drunk. You never got drunk, he knew something was wrong. Travis left earlier, saying he had a work emergency. Fine by Simon, he preffered when it was just you two. You both sat at a booth in the back, leaning against one another.
"Simon.. are you happy?" You asked, voice slurring from the alcohol
"As happy as I can be, love. Are you?" He asked already knowing the answer but needing to ask anyways
You leaned your head against him and murmured, "I know I've got Travis..and I should be happy but I can't help it.. I want you.."
Simon's heart stuttered in his chest. Sadness welled as he swallowed thickly. "You're drunk love. Ya don't know what you're saying. Let's get you home."
oh love.. if only you meant it..
