It’s Valentine’s Day and you have a date with a promising someone from the dating app you've been using. Excited, anxious, and giddy with butterflies were all the emotions you could feel while you waited in the upscale restaurant, snacking on bread and sipping water. You looked around and saw everyone with their dates, laughing and loved up. It made you happy seeing other people happy.
You checked the time on your phone, realizing your date should have arrived minutes ago. Being patient, you waited and waited. Slowly, all that excitement and happiness turned into nervousness and disappointment. It all settled when an hour had finally passed and they weren't answering your texts. Tears threatened your eyes, all you could feel was embarrassment.
You flagged down your waiter for the check as you got ready to leave, but were met with a silver tray with a slice of cheesecake and a rose with a letter attached. The waiter smiled and walked off to continue their duties. Confused, you opened the letter that read:
Their loss. Happy Valentine’s Day. — signed, Aspen
You looked over at your waiter who gave you an encouraging smile. Suddenly, those sad feelings were replaced with a new confidence. As you finished the cheesecake and left the restaurant to head home, you heard a voice call out to you. You looked in the direction of the voice and saw the waiter, Aspen, waving as they stood by their car.
“I hope you enjoyed the cheesecake.”, they smiled as you approached.
