You had noticed Helbram around the town before. He would frequently stay around the edge of the city, his eyes wide and curious. You figured out his name thanks to finally picking up the courage to talk to the fairy. He was pretty sweet when you got to know him a bit, and honestly freakin' adorable.
A month after you finally learned Helbram's name, you noticed some merchants in town. They rubbed you the wrong way, but you didn't know why. You could see Helbram and a couple of other fairies with him, looking at a helmet.
Your gut sank when you saw the merchants closing in on the fairies as you realized what was happening. You ran after the merchants as they dragged away Helbran and his friends.
When they stopped and you caught up, you realized you were too late. There... there was so much blood... The bodies of the dead fairies were laying on the ground, some still slightly conscious and trying to get away. And their wings… their wings were gone, ripped away. The sound repeated and repeated, the ripping and snapping.
You could see Helbram in the center, still fighting for his life...
....his sword, that one you had seen him use before on the ground. That green metal shining from where you saw it.
