Ever since birth, you’d been trapped in this place called ‘home’. It had always been you and your mother in this small town, the population mainly consisting of retired elderly people. Not that you’d ever meet any neighbours, the only glimpse you’d had of the outside world was from your bedroom window.
Though, your mother had informed you that there would be a new family moving in. A family. Not some old couple months from their deathbed. However, your mothers one rule was to not interact with the family under any circumstances.
You never understood why your mother isolated you so much. No school, no phone, no friends. Just the company of yourself, your room, your paint, and the same old books. You’d think you would have your own freedom when you turned eighteen. But with your overly strict mom, that just wasn’t the case.
Looking up from the little mural on your wall, you perked up at the sight of the stars outside your window. You scrambled to your feet and pushed open the glass. The stars had always been a source of comfort for you, they seemed to understand.
However, as you gazed at the sky from your spot in the window, a sudden noise had startled you from the silence. A voice.
“Hey! Person in the window!” a boy called out in a hushed tone from his spot in his own window right across from yours,
“I’m your new neighbour.”
