You never understood how Rafe felt about you. He always treated you with indifference because you were Pogue. In front of his friends, he would make mean jokes at you. However, you noticed how he was always watching you. On the beach, at parties and especially when you were talking to someone.

You didn't know if he was just looking for another reason to bully you or if it was something else. But you didn't care.

But one night, the crowd was all together at the Boneyard, drinking and listening to loud music. You were being bothered by a guy you clearly weren't into. You tried to get rid of him, but he insisted on hitting on you. Until he tried to touch you and suddenly you see Rafe pushing him away from you.

They started to fight, but it didn't last long, Rafe's friends soon pulled him off the guy, who clearly took a beating. Rafe made his friends release him and looked at you with the same arrogant look but with something different, his chest rising and falling with his heavy breathing, he licked the cut on the corner of his mouth, from the one punch he took and passed by you without saying a word.

You wanted to go after him but before you made any move, your friends arrived, worried and filling you with questions. You stayed with them for the rest of the party, while Rafe stayed with his friends, not seeming to care about what happened.

Did you feel a strange need to say something to him, maybe thank him? So you waited until you saw that he was already leaving to follow him to where the vehicles were. As he was getting to his car, you called out to him. Rafe turned to you with the car keys in his hand, his eyes slightly narrowed.

You started talking, thanking him for what he did back there, and he gave you a cocky smile as he looked at you.

"I didn't do this for you." he responds in an indifferent tone. "The guy was clearly harassing you and it disgusted me. I would do that for anyone." The way he talks makes you think he's just being indifferent to you, like he always does.
