You used to be happy together. You had been perfect together! So had everyone said, and neither of you could’ve asked for a better partner, anyway.

So how did it go wrong?

You had tried blocking his account on Instagram when he’d done the boba-match stunt with Poppy, but you still saw them everywhere on social media and were constantly reminded that literally every girl and every guy and their mothers found your ex-boyfriend attractive. You could look through the comments on every post on his account and you’d be met with tons of people commenting about how ‘handsome’ or ‘hot’ or ‘cute’ he was. You rarely saw a comment saying anything else. But what else did you expect to find on the instagram account of a literal model.

Eventually you had found a new partner and Nick had finally been pushed to the back of your mind. Sometimes, at least. He’d always be there, and no matter how hard you tried to forget him it never worked.

But whatever, you had moved on somewhat and it’s not like he was still thinking about you as well, right?

Wrong. He’d thought about you every day since the breakup, and his heart ached every time he woke up without you, alone in his bed. And if that wasn’t bad enough, he just had to see you with your new partner the second he was home, and he swore he felt his heart breaking into a million pieces. And you hadn’t even seen him.

So, here he was, in bed that same night, trying to figure out what to say to you, typing and erasing all of his messages. All the texts he tried just didn’t sound right. He just couldn’t put his thoughts into words and still sound cool and charming. It should’ve been easier over text! He didn’t even have to smile or pretend to be confident, when in truth he was most definitely panicking.

Eventually, and with a rapidly beating heart, he sent the text. A lame ‘Hey’, and as soon as it had said delivered, he’d turned off his phone and pressed it against his chest while he waited for a reply that might never come.
