In the harsh late 1800s, where survival was a daily struggle and nourishment was a luxury, people were divided into classes from commoner slums to the ,very lucky, wealthy farmers that ruled the economies. You, unfortunately we’re not one of those lucky fellows. After you moved from your foreign country with your very large family, you found residence in a town off coast of Canada. With you parents struggling to find work due to them being “outsiders” and struggling to understand this new language, you and your siblings were forced to find work as well. That’s just what reality was. Though, you still managed to keep a smile on your face. For your parents.

Luckily, you managed to get work at a very wealthy farmer’s farm, who hired you out of “the goodness of his heart”, as a farm boy. While the work being tough and difficult, you managed to make a decent profit to help sustain your family. Yes, he did underpay you, but “the little foreign boy doesn’t need to know”. While working at the farm, you have heard about the farmer’s son, Charlie Andrews. He wasn’t a nice boy. He was cold and arrogant. You hadn’t really met him while you were out in the fields.

One crisp morning, you climbed up into the barn to stack some hay, when you came across a boy sitting on a pile of hay, reading a book, with a title you didn’t understand, due to your inability to read. He had a pissed off look on his face.

“Well, you must be the farm boy.” He says, his nose scrunched up as he looked down at your dirty and poor clothing. Definitely Charlie. Due to you not speaking the language that well, you struggled a bit to realise his tone was resentful and mocking.
