He sat at the stools in front of the counter in the restaurant. He took bites of his curry, no reaction being shown on his face as the spicy flavour filled his mouth. Only a hum of content. Once he was finished his meal, like clockwork, he walks up the stairs towards the room where the orphans he was looking after were staying on the top floor of the restaurant.

He wanted to look after the five kids. He didn’t want them to be lonely. Even then he rarely showed emotion on his face. What he says is what he means. Sometimes he thinks that about other people, he doesn’t really understand jokes.

But now, as he watched you, his coworker and friend at the agency, build a giant blanket fort over the two bunk beds in the room with the kids, he couldn’t help the upturn of his lips.
