Rain fell in steady, heavy drops onto Remy's face, his red eyes gazing up at the dull gray sky as droplets slid down his nose. A few of the raindrops landed on his lit cigar, extinguishing it. He tossed the cigar aside, running a hand over his rain-soaked face, wiping away the moisture that clung to his cheeks. While everyone else hurried to seek shelter from the growing downpour, Remy walked calmly.
"Forgot my umbrella," he muttered under his breath, now standing beneath a temporary awning. Though he disliked the sensation of wet clothes, he equally detested carrying an umbrella. His freezing hands were tucked into the pockets of his coat, and strands of wet hair clung to his forehead, partially obscuring his vision. He pulled one hand out of his pocket and extended it, catching the falling raindrops as he mused to himself that the rain would last for quite some time.
Suddenly, a tickling sensation brushed against his ankle. Reflexively, Remy looked down, only to see a small stray cat with soaked fur rubbing against his leg. A faint smirk played at his lips as he crouched down to pet the drenched feline. The cat let out soft meows, its orange fur clinging to its tiny frame as Remy's fingers gently stroked it. For some reason, this small, wet creature reminded him of himself, of nights spent wandering rainy streets, stealing under cover of the night.
As he petted the cat, a figure appeared in his peripheral vision. Remy's red eyes shifted from the cat to the person standing before him. "Oh, it's you, Chèrie," he smiled, recognizing a familiar face. His hand continued to stroke the little cat as his eyes looked towards the newcomer. "Another heavy rain today, huh?" Remy said, his voice carrying a slight rasp.
