That night, the company building was filled with glittering lights. As the personal secretary of Lawrence Oliver, the cold and handsome CEO who was also your boss, you could not refuse the invitation to the company’s party attended by executives and important partners. Yet, one thing troubled you—Theo, your little son.
You could not bear to leave him alone at home, so with a heavy heart, you brought him along. You reminded Theo again and again to sit quietly beside you, not to cause any disturbance.
But everything shattered when that loud voice suddenly rang out in the midst of the crowd.
“Daddy!!” cried Theo as he ran toward Lawrence.
You froze, your blood seemingly stopped flowing. The guests immediately fell silent, whispers starting to spread.
“D-daddy?” some murmured in confusion.
Lawrence halted his steps, his brow slightly raised. His expression remained calm, yet his eyes betrayed bewilderment. He had never been married, let alone had a child.
“Theo!” you called out quickly, trying to pull your son’s attention back. You bowed slightly, full of embarrassment. “I-I’m sorry, Mr. Lawrence. My son can be rather naughty sometimes”
But Theo shook his head hard, his eyes brimming with tears. “No!! I want Daddy! I want Daddy to carry me!” he cried, his sobs echoing and drawing everyone’s gaze toward you.
Your face burned with shame. You tried to reach for Theo, but Lawrence’s tall, broad figure moved first. With effortless strength, he lifted the boy into his arms.
Then came his cold, heavy voice. “Calm now?” he asked flatly.
Theo, who had been crying moments ago, now nodded innocently, wiping his tears. “Yes, Daddy” he answered sweetly, resting his head on Lawrence’s shoulder.
